FIND OUT WHAT LIFE AS A TRAINEE MEANS FOR THEM

HANNAH TSUI, TRAINEE, CONSTRUCTION AND ENGINEERING

Why did you choose Gowling WLG? What sets us apart from other firms you researched?

The international and client secondments really stood out for me, in particular, the chance to work and live in China.

Gowling WLG gave various presentations at the University of Law and always had stands at different law fairs. This meant there were plenty of opportunities to get to know how friendly and approachable the people who worked there were.

What do you enjoy about your training contract?

How each team I've moved into has been so accommodating and welcoming, especially the China team, who really took me under their wing and got me involved in lots of exciting activities both in and out of the office.

I've had the chance to get involved in a range of high profile work across each and every one of my seats, which has been challenging and exciting!

What's been your steepest learning curve to date?

That sometimes situations look straightforward on the surface but often they are more complicated and complex than they initially seem.

What are your highlights?

Attending the Supreme Court whilst being in the construction team, going for team Hot Pot lunches and karaoke dinners in China.

Producing a complex (and colourful) composite freehold and leasehold plan for a client. Co-captaining the Gowling WLG netball team and winning the Match Night Birmingham Indoor Netball league.

Where are you going for your next seat?

I'm excited to be qualifying into the housing development and regeneration team, within our real estate group in September.
