What’s your background?
I achieved a 1st class BA (Hons) degree at Birmingham City University and worked in the education sector for two years upon completion. In 2015, I decided to pursue a career in HR and have since passed my Level 5 CIPD, which is something the firm has been particularly supportive towards.
Why did you choose to work here?
Having previously worked in public sector related services I was interested in the opportunity to experience working within a large corporate environment with a new set of challenges to help me develop further.
What was the recruitment process like?
There were two stages to my interview process, which took place on the same day. I was initially interviewed by two members of the HR team, followed by my HR team leader. The interviews were competency-based but also provided the opportunity to get a real feel for what it would be like working for the firm.
What makes Gowling WLG different to other firms?
Gowling WLG prides itself on being one of the only law firms to be consistently recognised in The Great Place to Work® list and achieves this through putting people at the heart of what they do. Since joining, I have been impressed by the variety of schemes and benefits on offer to involve and suit employees at all levels.
What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about working here?
The variety of work I have had exposure to. Two days are never the same!
What do you do outside work?
I am an active gym member and attend weekly functional fitness classes. I also enjoy visiting and travelling to new places – I have managed to cross Australia, America, South East Asia and parts Europe off my list so far!
